The symptoms of rosacea are similar to those of acne and therefore this condition can sometimes be mistaken for acne. The symptoms of rosacea are:

 

  • Red areas on the face.
  • Small, red bumps or pustules on your nose, cheeks, forehead and chin, slightly dissimilar to blackheads. .
  • Rosacea symptoms can include a red, bulbous nose growth on the noser sometimes referred to as rhinophyma.
  • Small visible, but blood vessels on the nose and cheeks commonly known as telangiectasia..
  • Ocular rosacea presents as a burning or gritty sensation in your eyes.
  • There is a tendency to flush or blush easily with rosacea.

  • Rosacea usually starts as a slight tendency to flush or blush, and then progresses to a more persistent redness in the cheek area of the face, particularly on the nose area. This is the result of dilation of the blood vessels close to the surface of the skin on the face. This phase in the onset of rosacea is often referred to as pre-rosacea.
  • Signs that the rosacea symptoms are worsening may indicate the onset of vascular rosacea. Small blood vessels on the nose and cheeks begin to swell and become visible indicating the presence of a condition known as telangiectasia. The skin may become exteemly sensitive. Vascular rosacea may also be accompanied by oily skin and dandruff.
  • Small, red bumps or pustules may appear and persist, spreading across the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. This is sometimes known as inflammatory rosacea.

Ocular Rosacea will present in roughly 50% of rosacea sufferers, the symptoms of ocular rosacea are burning gritty sensations in the eyes. Conjunctivitis is a condition that can result from jocular rosacea, if the inner skin of the eyelids become inflamed

In the regular course of rosacea, there is a possibility that older men could develop red raised bumps called papules and/or a bulbous nose. This condition is known as rhinophyma.
